After the CNC Mill table was complete I had all sorts of ideas about mounting the computer off it. Originally I had slated a IBM Notebook for the computer, but this proved to be not powerful enough.
So I used this older PC I had lying around, it had a great 8GB Graphics card and 4GB Ram. The screen blew up so I had to buy a new monitor.
Then came the problem of where to mount it. So I decided to build a computer stand like the type I had been using in Data Centers for years. It needed wheels and adjustable keyboard, and a swivel monitor. |

Out come the trusty 50mm box and I cut a "monitor post". Some 25mmm box made the base along with some 2mm plate. I had some castor wheels lying around and an old TV wall bracket which made up the adjustable keyboard holder. I cut some 2mm plate in a nice shape for the keyboard "desk", and using my plasma cutter, slotted some 10mm box to fit over the ends of the keyboard desk to stop the keyboard sliding off. |
I wanted the monitor to swivel so I cut the top of the 50mm box off (along with the monitor mount I had made from 2mm plate) and lathed up a piece of delron plastic to use as a swivel.
By inserting the plastic retainer between the cut off top and the post it made a nice secure swivel for the monitor.
So it ws that simple, and of course everything got the usual poison green undercoat and blue top coat! |
