Eating Correctly and Diet |
These are my thoughts and opinions on Diet and Eating Correctly. If you disagree, make your own website and share yours! As an Ex Vegitarian, Ex Vegan and avid food lover, I have researched many aspects of our diet. I mean the human diet not some fad thing that people try to "do" or "change" to loose weight. So many people are making so much money from overweight people who want to get the next hot new supplement/pill/diet/food that will miraculously dissolve their flab into ripped, lean muscle without doing any of that nasty exercise stuff. Yeah, I have seen pigs flying backwards too. But I tell it how I see it. So what do I believe? Well for starters, it is not some new, amazing, all natural, dietry supplement or mix-with-water drink! I eat because I like taste and I like enjoying a delicious meal. I also love to cook. I admit that some junk food can taste very good, after all a lot of research has been put into finding out how our taste receptors work and what will fool them into reporting to us that this food tastes good. Dog shit may be made to taste like pumpkin pie but it is still dog shit. |
I have unique tastes, I pretty much like most food, including Asian, Western and Middle Eastern. I enjoy a lean, blue, prime rib steak as much as a spicy Som Tam (Papaya Salad). My simple and somewhat old fashioned belief is that using as natural as you can get base ingredients (like flour, salt, herbs and spices), as fresh as possible meats, seafood and dairy products (with little or no processing), and base-to-complete cooking methods (again old fashioned), produces the best tasting and most healthy food you can get. We eat a lot of fruit, fresh vegetables, jungle veg (all natural) and fresh meats. Cooked without oils and we use no or very little processed anything. We eat lots of each food type (Meat, Dairy, Fruit and Veg and good carbs like hand processed purple rice (original Borneo rice dehusked by machine) and we cook our meat according to type. For example this means we eat fish either raw (japanese style - if it is super fresh) or steamed or baked. We eat steak blue and veg almost raw. (just a light cook). We make extensive use of herbs, spices and natural flavourings. I love chilli so does my family so we use a lot of that in our Asian cooking. |
We make our own pizza dough, and cook pizzas with our own hand made toppings. Healthy and delicious. I make extensive use of fresh eggs, I make into protein meals (omeletes, boiled or scrambled) or protein shakes using a couple of old fashioned herbs and spices (Nutmeg and Cinnamon), honey and full cream milk. The kids love them. All natural and cheap protein shakes that build lean muscle. No supplements needed! Eggs have been proven and used by body builders for years. 8 essential amino acids that the body cannot produce alone. Plus huge amounts of protein and other good stuff. |
Eating healthy, good, clean food is so simple and usually much cheaper! Be prepared to spend a little more time cooking (but a lot less money shopping!).
Getting clean meats is a little harder and takes more time, these days beef, chicken and pork (in fact most meats) contain many chemical residues from the hormone treatments administered via the feed.
Chickens are known to be full of female hormones (estrogen) these days - used to make the chickens grow big faster... But you can imagine the long term effects on boys!
Beef has its fair share of additives, so we also have to be careful there. Grass fed beef usually means less crap but its not a certainty.
Even fruits and vegetables are contaminated with all sorts of crap - all in the name of greater profits!
The food industry is rife with profits over health, and the alternatives are usually there just to cash in on unsuspecting people wanting to improve their health. So be careful. So called health food can be even worse for you! We use fresh ingredients and make clean healthy and freshly cooked food. Eating like this is just plain good for you, and our kids are growing up strong and healthy. We never worry about serving size or how much we eat, the body has a natural method of letting you know when you feel full. Without the nasty, addictive and deceptive chemicals at work when you eat, it is amazing how you don't seem to want to over eat. |
The food industry will tell you this is good for you and that is bad - it all depends who is doing the talking as to what is supposed to be good or bad for you.
This month doctors say eggs have too much cholesterol but meat is good, next month meat gives you cancer and eggs are a good source of protein!
When money is involved, everything gets tainted. Just look to the things that seem logical. Do chemical additives used by food processing companies that come in sacks or drums marked "hazardous materials" sound like something you want to eat?
Do the FDA and other such government organisations rely on the food industry for their existence? Are you really sure what the label says on processed food discloses the full nature of the processing and/or ingredients? It is a "buyer beware" world and dead men tell no tales. Eating healthy is actually easy, tastes better and is cheaper. So next time you are out buying food - think about exactly what you are buying. After all is said and done - You are what you eat. |
